The
Old Whaling Church, Edgartown
Built by whaling captains in 1843, considered to be one of
the finest examples of Greek revival architecture in New England.
The
Flying Horses Carousel, Oak Bluffs The nation's oldest operating platform
carousel and a National Historic Landmark. The
Polly Hill Arboretum, West Tisbury A Martha's Vineyard horticultural and
botanical landmark, developed over the past forty years by the legendary horticulturist,
Polly Hill. Chicama
Vineyards, West Tisbury Founded by Catherine and George Mathiesen in 1971
and is operated today by three generations of the same family. It is the first
bonded winery in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Cottage
City, Oak Bluffs Cottage City is renowned for its "gingerbread cottages"
nicknamed for the elaborate moldings and trims that adorn them. Felix
Neck Wildlife Sanctuary, Edgartown Explore Felix Neck's two miles of trails,
which provide spectacular views of the surrounding woodlands, meadows, pond, salt
marsh, and barrier beach. Sheriff's
Meadow Foundation Properties, Various island locations Sheriff's Meadow
Foundation has conserved over 2200 acres of land on Martha's Vineyard. This includes
ownership of more than 140 parcels totaling over 1780 acres. Cape
Pogue Wildlife Refuge, Chappaquiddick Island Chappaquiddick Island's eastern
edge is a barrier beach formed thousands of years ago by offshore currents that
deposited tons of sand. Today this beach extends for seven miles from Wasque Point
past the Cape Pogue Lighthouse to the Gut. Long
Point Wildlife Refuge, West Tisbury Long Point Wildlife Refuge is part
of a sand barrens ecosystem that exists in patches from New Jersey to Maine. This
ecosystem is home to many rare community types. Menemsha
Hills, Chilmark Former woods roads and footpaths pass through several
distinct ecosystems that demonstrate the unusual topographic diversity of Menemsha
Hills. Mytoi,
Chappaquiddick Island.
Mytoi ("me'-toi") is a small Japanese-style garden
set within an open pine forest.
Wasque,
Chappaquiddick Island These habitats are part of a sand barrens ecosystem
that exists in patches from New Jersey to Maine. Many rare species of plants and
animals depend on these open areas at Wasque.
